Maintenance Worker I

Duties

• Operates vehicles such as trucks to transport people or material to job sites.

• Loads and unloads materials such as gravel, dirt, timber, chemicals, or other materials, tools, and equipment.
• Maintains outdoor areas by cutting grass, pruning trees and bushes, raking leaves and debris, installing landscape material, and other maintenance tasks.
• Performs utility service work such as digging trenches, cleaning ditches; assists with installation of fixtures such as pipes, manholes, and sewer lines.
• Performs maintenance functions such as repairing irrigation, greasing pumps, motors, and shafts, and replacing valves; performs light repairs and installations as directed.
• Maintains indoor areas such as cleaning facilities and indoor areas, performing light maintenance such as painting and minor repairs.
• Assists the public by answering questions and providing routine information.
• Performs clerical tasks such as completing work orders or maintaining logs.
• Compares or inspects items against a standard.
• Follows oral and written directions; communication effectively in both oral and written form of supervisor
• Makes a few decisions, affecting only the individual.

• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, including City and other government officials, community groups, and the general public; and applying safe work practices.

Minimums

Previous experience working in a ground’s maintenance position preferred, but not required. Employee will receive on the job training. General knowledge of computer usage preferred. Requires a valid State of Florida driver license and satisfactory driving record as a condition of initial and continued employment. May be required to acquire and maintain a specific applicators license.
